Step 1: Decide on a visa
Choose the type of visa based on your situation: age, income, purpose of relocation. The most popular options are: retirement (50+), Elite (any age, have money), tourist + visa run (temporary solution).
Step 2: Find accommodation
We recommend renting first for 1-3 months, living in different areas, and only then buying. This way, you will understand which area and type of accommodation suits you.
Step 3: Open a bank account
This is not easy, but possible. Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank work with foreigners. You need a passport, visa, and a residence certificate (which can be obtained from immigration).
Step 4: Health insurance
Be sure to get international health insurance. Healthcare in Thailand is excellent, but expensive without insurance. Cost: from 20,000 to 80,000 baht/year depending on coverage and age.
Step 5: Practical matters
Transport: Motorbike (rental 3,000-5,000 baht/month) or car. You can obtain Thai driving licenses based on international ones.
Mobile communication: AIS, True, DTAC — SIM card with unlimited internet from 300 baht/month.
Food: Markets and local cafes — from 50-80 baht per dish. European food — 200-500 baht.
Cost of living
Minimally comfortable: 30,000 — 40,000 baht/month (housing, food, transport, communication)
Comfortable: 50,000 — 80,000 baht/month
With a margin: 100,000+ baht/month
